SWATI:

·         The DRDO formally handed over an indigenously developed Weapon Locating Radar (WLR) system called ‘Swati’ to the Arm

ANTYODAYA EXPRESS FLAGGED OFF:

·         Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off the country’s first Antyodaya Express.
·         Tejas and UDAY Express will be launched soon.
·         Antyodaya Express is a long-distance, fully unreserved, superfast train service, for the common man to be operated on dense routes.

VIRAT KOHLI NAMED CAPTAIN OF THE YEAR AT ESPNCRICINFO AWARDS:

·         India Test skipper Virat Kohli has been named as the 'Captain of the Year' at the 10th annual ESPNcricinfo Awards.
·         Kohli led India to nine wins out of 12 Tests in the year gone by.

·         Englishman Ben Stokes won the Test Batting Performance of the Year for his incredible counterattacking innings of 258 runs off 198 balls against South Africa in Cape Town.

PUDUCHERRY RANKS THIRD IN HAVING LESSER INFANT MORTALITY RATE:

·         Director of Health and Family Welfare Services K V Raman said that Union Territory was having 11 deaths of children per 1000 babies born.
·         This is a recordand is culmination of initiatives of various departments including the Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Health and other departments implementing the Integrated Child Development scheme"
·         Puducherry ranked third in the achievement next to Goa and Kerala.

TEJASWINI PROJECT:

·         The project seeks to empower the adolescent girls with basic life skills and thereafter provide further opportunities to acquire market driven skill training or completion of secondary education, depending on the inclination of the beneficiary.
·         The project will be delivered in 17 Districts of Jharkhand.
·         About 680,000 adolescent girls and young women in the project Districts are expected to benefit from the program.
·         The closing date for the project is 30th June, 2021.
·         A Financing Agreement for IDA credit of US$ 63 million (equivalent) for the Tejaswini Project –  for Socio-Economic Empowerment of Adolescent Girls and Young Women was signed with the World Bank on 23rd February, 2017.

The project has three main components:

·         Expanding social, educational and economic opportunities.
·         Intensive service delivery.
·         State capacity-building and implementation support.
