ASSAM
MAKES SANSKRIT COMPULSORY SUBJECT UPTO CLASS 8:
·
The Assam government led by Sarbananda
Sonowal decided to make Sanskrit along with computer education, a permanent
subject in the state schools.
·
Teachers will also be appointed for this
purpose.
·
To increase computer literacy, the
government has taken a cabinet decision yesterday that all schools will have
computer education and Sanskrit as permanent subjects.
·
Teachers will be appointed in high
schools under Swachh Bharat Mission and they will be made responsible in
maintaining cleanliness in schools in Assam state.
MAMATA
BANERJEE GRANTS OFFICIAL STATUS TO TWO TRIBAL LANGUAGES:
·
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee granted
official status to the Kurukh
language spoken by Oraon and Kisan tribes, and the Rajbanshi-Kamtapuri language spoken by the Koch Rajbanshi
community, to mark International Mother Language Day
·
The Oraon tribe in West Bengal speaks
Kurukh, which was declared an endangered language by UNESCO, and there is no
written script for Rajbanshi-Kamtapuri.
·
From now on, these two languages will be
officially recognised the state government has set up a committee, headed by
Indologist Nrisingha Prasad Bhaduri, which would help create a written form for
Rajbanshi-Kamtapuri.

AIRPORT AND VIJAYAWADA AIRPORT RENAMED BY THE ANDHRA PRADESH GOVERNMENT:

During the Andhra Pradesh State Cabinet
Meeting held in Amaravathi by Mr. N ChandraBabu Naidu, the Chief Minister of
Andhra Pradesh approved the proposal to change the names of Vijayawada Airport and
Tirupathi Airport.
·
The state govt will send this proposal
to the Union government for final approval.
·
Vijayawada Gannavaram Airport as
Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) Amaravati Airport.
·
Tirupathi Airport as Sri Venkateswara
Airport.

SHELEADSTECH
·
Social networking site Facebook on
Wednesday launched a new initiative, SheLeadsTech,
to support women-founded or co-founded startups.
·
It will also be expanding its SheMeansBusiness program that supports
women-led small businesses.
·
SheLeadsTech
will give women-founded or co-founded start-ups access to a year-long program
that provides tools, mentorship and resources.
TIRTHA
DARSHAN SCHEME ANNOUNCED BY HARYANA GOVT:
·
A Tirtha Darshan scheme, under which
senior citizens of the state will be able to go on pilgrimage within the
country on government expenses, was announced in the Haryana Assembly.
·
Under the scheme, the government would
bear the entire cost of the tour of senior citizens belonging to the Below
Poverty Line (BPL) families.
·
The scheme is reserved for domiciles of
Haryana
·
In case of a couple, the expenses of the
spouse belonging to BPL family would also be borne by the government.
·
They would also be able to take along an
assistant.
·
Senior citizens of non-BPL families, the
government would bear only 70 per cent of the cost.
·
The senior citizens would be selected
for the pilgrimage on the basis of draw of lots.
·
There are more than 400 destinations
which can be visited under the scheme.

The popular singer Rihanna has been
named the 2017 Harvard University Humanitarian of the Year, and will come to

Rihanna has charitably built a state-of-
the-art center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast
cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados.

IS SECOND CAPITAL OF HIMACHAL PRADESH

Himachal Pradesh state cabinet on
Thursday approved Dharamsala, situated in the snow-capped Dhauladhar range, as
the second capital of the hill state
·
On January 19, HP CM Virbhadra Singh had
proposed Dharamsala as state's winter capital.
·
Dharamsala lies in Kangra district, some
250km from the state capital Shimla.

FELLOWSHIP AWARD TO LALJI SINGH:

Lalji Singh, former Director,the center
for cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) has been selected for the award of
SERB Fellowship.

It is given by the science and
Engineering Research Board (SERB) which is a statutory body of the Government
of India.
·
The Award supports research of
scientists who are active and performing even after superannuation.
WORLD’S
OLDEST FOSSILS DISCOVERED IN QUEBEC, CANADA:
·
Scientists have claimed that they have
discovered oldest fossils on Earth in rocks from Quebec, Canada.
·
Carbon dating techniques suggest that
these rocks are at least 3.8 billion years old and might even be 4.3 billion
years old.
·
The fossils are tiny and consist of
tubes and filaments up to half a millimetre in length and around half the width
of a human hair.
·
The fossils are thought to be the
remains of bacteria that lived on iron and dwelt around hydrothermal vent
systems i.e. mineral rich hot springs on the seafloor.
·
They’re made of haematite, a type of
iron oxide (known as rust). Some of the filaments are branched, some resemble
loose coils and others appear to be joined to knobs of haematite.
·
These structures were found to contain
graphite as well as the minerals apatite and carbonate which are basically
associated with biological matter.
GOVERNMENT
LAUNCHES FIRST EVER ACROSS-THE-RIVER SURVEY TO FIGURE OUT AQUATIC LIFE:
·
The Union Government has launched the
first ever across-the-river survey in
River Ganga to determine the population of aquatic life, including that of
the endangered Gangetic doplhin.
·
The survey will create a baseline
scientific data for the government to take suitable measures to improve quality
of the Ganga’s water.
·
The first of its kind survey is being
conducted by National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) through Wildlife Institute
of India (WII) under Namami Gange programme.
·
The first leg of the census was launched
on March 1, 2017 from Narora in Uttar Pradesh to Bijnor (covering nearly 165 km
distance) to establish the number of the Gangetic dolphin, national aquatic
animal.
·
In next phase it will be launched in the
Allahabad to Varanasi stretch (close to 250 km in length) in Uttar Pradesh.
·
It will find out stretches where dolphin
is habitating, what are the conditions there and the level of threat the
long-snouted species is facing in a particular belt.
·
The study to figure out fish species
composition in the in the 2525 km-long stretch of River Ganga also been started
from Harshil in Uttarakhand.
·
Besides populace count, it will help
know distribution pattern of aquatic life in river, extent of threat level
faced by them and their habitat conditions.
·
It will also ascertain number of
ghariyals and turtles.
‘BHAGORIA’
FESTIVAL BEGINS IN MADHYA PRADESH:
·
Bhagoria, a Tribal Festival is popularly
known as Bhagoria Haat Festival.
·
The local Tribals Bhils and Bhilalas
living in Jhabua of Madhya Pradesh state celebrate this Bhagoria festival
before Holi in the month of March marking the completion of harvesting.

SENSITIVE AREA – WESTERN GHATS:

After several surveys finally, the
government gave a declaration that 56,825 square km area in the Western Ghats
as an Ecologically Sensitive Area in short which is called as ESA.
·
The Western Ghats is a range of
mountains that parallelly runs to the western coast of the Indian peninsula,
located in India.
A NEW
TRADE ROUTE BETWEEN CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN ASIA – JAMMU & KASHMIR:
·
The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir,
Mehbooba Mufti Sayeed proposed a new trade route between the Central Asia and
Southern Asia.
·
The link between the 2 regions will
negate the regional conflicts.
ISGAN(INTERNATIONAL
SMART GRID ACTION NETWORK):
·
The Ministry of Power, Government of
India is hosting the 13th Executive Committee (ExCo) Meeting of the
International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) at POWERGRID Corporate Center,
Gurugram.
·
This is the first ever Executive
Committee Meeting of ISGAN being held in India and would have multiple sessions
on 6th, 7th and 9th March, 2017.
·
Smart Grid implementation in India would
get a boost from deliverables obtained through decisions and actions taken in
13th ISGAN ExCo Meeting as it aims to improve the understanding of smart grid
technologies, practices and promote adoption of related enabling government
policies.
·
The dynamic knowledge sharing, technical
assistance and project coordination and periodic ISGAN reports on progress and
projects being undertaken in the field of Smart Grids across the world would
also be helpful in suitable deployment of Smart Grid technologies in India.
·
A total of 36 representatives from 18
countries namely Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy,
Japan, Korea, Norway, Russia, South Africa, Singapore, Spain, Sweden,
Switzerland, US and UAE are participating in this event.

NETWORK:

It is an agreement under International
Energy Agency (IEA) and consists of representatives from 25 countries across
the globe.
·
India is one of the founding Member of
ISGAN and Joint Secretary (Distribution), Ministry of Power, is the member
representative of India.
·
ISGAN creates a mechanism for
multilateral government-to-government collaboration to advance the development
and deployment of smarter electric grid technologies, practices and systems.
IBBI
RECOGNIZES TWO IPES:
·
The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of
India (IBBI) has recently recognised two Insolvency Professional Entities
(IPEs).
·
A limited liability partnership, a
registered partnership firm or a company may be recognised by the IBBI as an
IPE if
·
A majority of the partners of the
limited liability partnership or registered partnership firm are registered as
insolvency professionals (IPs); or
·
A majority of the whole-time directors
of the company are registered as insolvency professionals, as the case may be.
·
An IPE is jointly and severally liable
for all acts or omissions of its partners or directors as IPs committed during
such partnership or directorship.
WHAT ARE
INSOLVENCY PROFESSIONALS?

The Insolvency Professionals (IPs) are
registered and regulated by the IBBI.
·
They have a critical role in
transactions under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (Code).
·
The Code and regulations made there
under provide for strengthening their capacity on a continuous basis.
ABOUT
INSOLVENCY AND BANKRUPTCY CODE, 2016
·
The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016
is considered as the biggest economic reform next only to GST.
·
It offers a market determined, time
bound mechanism for orderly resolution of insolvency, wherever possible, and
orderly exit, wherever required.
·
The Code envisages an ecosystem
comprising National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), National Company
Law Tribunal (NCLT), Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunal (DRAT), Debt Recovery
Tribunal (DRT), Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Board), Information
Utilities (IUs), Insolvency Professionals (IPs), Insolvency Professional
Agencies (IPAs) and Insolvency Professional Entities (IPEs) for implementation
of the Code.
·
With concerted efforts of all concerned,
there has been considerable progress in terms of putting in place some of the
key elements of the ecosystem and also operationalisation of provisions
relating to corporate insolvency resolution and liquidation.

The debtors and creditors alike have
commenced transactions under the Code.
INDO-OMAN
JOINT ARMY EXERCISE :
·
Second edition of the joint exercise
between the Indian and Oman Armies commenced today with the Opening Ceremony at
Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh.
AL NAGAH-LI EXERCISE
·
The training contingents comprised of
platoon strength from both the Armies, which will be validated over 2-3 days by
senior military observers of both the countries.
·
The previous edition of the Exercise was
held at Muscat, Oman in 2015.
·
The aim of this exercise is to acquaint
both forces with each other’s operating procedures, improve the
interoperability in conducting joint operations in the backdrop of counter
insurgency/ counter terrorism environment as also to enhance the existing
military relationship between the Indian Army and the Royal Army of Oman.

The Biotechnology Industry Research
Assistance Council will house its regional entrepreneurship centre at Bengaluru
based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms a biotechnology innovation
incubator.
·
The government’s nodal funding agency
for the biotech industry BIRAC regional centre aimed to increase portfolio
through partnerships with startups and entrepreneurs.
·
The centre will provide a direct
interface between angel investors and earlystage VCs, among other things.

TRIBAL
FESTIVAL ‘BHAGORIA’ BEGINS IN JHABUA:
·
Bhagoria Festival, also known as
Bhagoria Haat Festival, celebrated by the tribal people of the Indian state
Madhya Pradesh in Jhabua district.
·
The festival which has been organized at
34 places in the state is celebrated in the month of March before the Holi
Festival by the local tribes called Bhils and Bhilalas.
·
The week-long festival is organised at
different Bhagoria haats in the form of Svayamvara or Marriage Ceremony located
in Jhabua, Dhar, Alirajpur, Barwani and Khargone districts in western Madhya
Pradesh.
